A Resato Hydrogen Technology refueling station for hydrogen buses

On the Wijnbergen industrial estate in Doetinchem, Kuster Energy has been operating one of Europe’s largest public hydrogen refueling stations since december 2021. It is accessible 24/7 and enables emission-free public transport in the Achterhoek region by supplying Arriva’s large number of hydrogen buses, among other things.

Technical specifications:

  • Installation date: December 2021
  • Operator: Kuster Energy
  • Type Station: 350 bar for trucks and buses and 700 bar for cars
  • Accessibility: Public station for both buses, trucks and cars
  • Details: One of the largest public hydrogen refueling stations in Europe

Testimonial

Resato is the best partner for us: lots of experience, lots of knowledge and short lines of communication. We just needed that to realise this station."

Kuster Energy

The hydrogen refueling station in Doetinchem is an important step towards cleaner transport in the region.

The station was realised with the cooperation of Omgevingsdienst Achterhoek, Veiligheidsregio Noord- en Oost- Gelderland, Gemeente Doetinchem and Provincie Gelderland.

The Location was deliberately chosen to be widely accessible ans is open 24/7. Customers can refuel there not only hydrogen, but also electricity, green gas and traditional fuels. With this, Kuster Energy is responding to a future in which multiple forms of energy co-exist.

Use by Arriva buses

One of its main uses is to facilitate emission-free punblic transport in the Achterhoek region. Arriva is actively using the hydrogen refueling station for its buses and has the ambition to make its fleet further sustainable. Thanks tot the refueling station, buses can quickly refuel under 350 bar and continue their routes with zero emissions. The station performs above expectations: vehicles can be back on the road fully refueled in a short time.

Innovation and future vision

In addition to the filling station, Kuster Energy is betting on a wider hydrogen ecosystem in the eastern Netherlands. Thanks to specially developed transport containers, the company can supply high-pressure gaseous hydrogen to construction sites, festivals and companies. At locations without a grid connection, a hydrogen generator can be used to generate emission-free electricity. This fits Kuster Energy's ambition as an Achterhoek company to play a pioneering role in energy transition.

With the hydrogen filling station in Doetinchem, Kuster Energy is making an important contribution to making mobility sustainable in the Achterhoek and far beyond. Thanks to the cooperation with Resato Hydrogen Technology and other partners, the station is ready to support the growing demand for hydrogen mobility.
