Official inauguration hydrogen production and refueling facility for public buses in Cannes, France

Cannes, June 2026 – David Lisnard, Mayor of Cannes, officially inaugurated the first urban station for the production of low-carbon and renewable hydrogen in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region.

The Cannes Lérins Hydrogen Project, led by the Communauté d'Agglomération Cannes Pays de Lérins, Hynamics, Banque des Territoires and Green Energy 06, has received financial support from the European Union through the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA), ADEME, and the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur Regional Council.

Resato is proud to have developed and supplied the hydrogen refueling station that enables the new hydrogen bus fleet to be refueled efficiently and reliably. Seeing hydrogen infrastructure and hydrogen-powered public transport come together marks another important milestone in accelerating the energy transition and advancing sustainable mobility.

The station supports the expansion of zero-emission public transport solutions and contributes to the transition towards cleaner, quieter mobility for the residents of Cannes. Renewable hydrogen complements existing solutions such as battery-electric propulsion and biofuels. Since 2023, the entire Palm Bus network has already been carbon neutral.

Over the coming weeks, the first 14 hydrogen buses will be deployed across the network. In the long term, the fleet will expand to 41 buses powered by locally produced renewable hydrogen, significantly improving air quality throughout the region. The project is expected to prevent approximately 3,228 tonnes of CO₂ emissions every year, equivalent to removing around 1,700 cars from the road. In addition, the 2.6 million kilometres travelled annually by these hydrogen buses will generate zero CO₂ emissions.

We are honoured to contribute to the infrastructure behind this pioneering project and look forward to seeing the fleet grow from 14 hydrogen buses today to 41 buses in the coming years, further supporting Cannes in its ambition to build a cleaner and more sustainable future.
